TIPS. HINTS. AND TRIVIA PAGE:

Here are some helpful hints and other research to aid you in your writing endeavors. This list will be constantly updated, expanded, mixed around and is still in no particular order!

First and foremost:

Check with Mapquest for street locations. It will give you some idea of what streets are where. But, as everyone knows, the streets in Emergency! were real, they just didn't exist the way they were portrayed!

Second and Not Least:

Check with Digital Desert for some interesting local locations. SoCal is a semi-arid desert and besides going to the beach, we like to visit the "real" desert! Also, try National Forests in California link to check out other places of interest. Although the trees you see in the valleys in SoCal, that's not a forest but landscaping. You have to go to the National Forests to actually see an honest-to-goodness bunch of trees.

1. News Flash: Wake-up tones at the station houses in Los Angeles County Fire Department is 07:00 hours in the morning

2. Tip: A bullet wound burns! Yes, indeed, when suffering from a bullet or shotgun wound, the projectile(s) burn like a sonvagun! They have just been expelled out of a barrel at high speed by very hot gases and are themselves extremely hot so when they enter/passthru flesh, it literally feels like you're burned albeit internally. Didn't know that, huh? (Trust E!U. This was learned the hard way. Can you say, "bullet sponge?") ;)

3. Speaking of "bullet sponge...." Dixie McCall was a nurse in Korea in a field hospital where she "bought the unit citation." This means that she was wounded in action and received a citation for performance above and beyond the call of duty (generally, these are given post-humously!). This is up there in the ranking of Silver and Bronze Stars. She could have been in a MASH unit or up at the forward lines at a first aide station when this occurred. (The pilot.)

4. Roy was in the Army (The pilot).

5. Tip: Shifts start at 08:00 hours in Los Angeles and go for 24 hours (just in case you didn't know that!). There was a Shift Schedule for 1972 available at another fansite but it is sadly gone. E!U will be tireless in trying to track down those schedules. Also, when the shift schedule came out, it was/is for the entire year. So, now surprises when it comes working a holiday shift, they know a full year in advance! Generally, work one day, off one day, work on day, off two days, work one day, off four days.

6. Historical Fact: Seminoles have their reservation in Florida. They were the only Indian Nation who were NEVER conquered by the U.S. (The soldiers who went after them found it kinda hard to do so since the area was swampland and unfamiliar territory. The Seminoles were not impeded by this!) There is also a Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.

7. Even though "Frequency" and "The Old Engine" had our boyz at Station 51 as the C-shift.... They have been established as the A-shift.

8. Roy's wife's name is Joanne. She's rather tall, a brunette and was apparently fashion conscious -- she had a "Twiggy" haircut and a fashionable dress on at Johnny's birthday party (the series pilot). They met in the fourth grade and knew each other for twelves years before getting married ("Details").

9. In "Frequency," Johnny mentions that he has a motorcycle.

10. Roy's mother's name is Harriet and Stanley said to Chet that they (Roy and Johnny) made that up -- Roy's mother's name is Mom ("Communications Gaffe").

11. Roy's favorite vegetable is an artichoke but he doesn't ask for them too often because they're quite a bit of trouble to fix (they are?) ("Communications Gaffe").

12. Roy went to school in Norwalk, California which is near the 5 Freeway and an oil refinery ("The Screenwriter"). He first became interested in becoming a firefighter as a junior at Norwalk High. There seems to have been a fire station down the street. Currently, there are two fire stations in Norwalk -- 115 and 20. 20 seems to be the closest.

13. Johnny was a track star in high school. He was called "John Gage, the Galloping Greyhound" in the high school newspaper. He ran the 440 and the mile relay. His best time was 48.3 ("Gossip").

14. Roy was on the high school swim team, but he was "just one of the guys." ("Gossip").

15. Dixie has a brother who, incidentally, used to carve peach pits into baskets ("Gossip").

16. Roy and Johnny are both out of the Fireman's Olympics because they don't have Roy's event, "Blind Dash In A State Of Total Panic!" ("Gossip.")

17. Johnny's record for number of IV bags he can hold in his teeth is three ("The Game"). He has also mastered the technique of talking quite clearly with an IV bag clenched in his teeth.

18. In "Peace Pipe," Chet makes a reference that Johnny is only half Indian (yeah, like all of you didn't know that!).

19. Tip: when you talk about Johnny's background, you might want to consider that Mantooth's father is the full-blood (Seminole) and consider the same applies to Johnny. Mantooth's mother is of German extraction.

20. Johnny has an aunt ("Messin' Around").

21. Tip: Have a burning desire to see how many times Johnny was injured? Well, go to Exam Room 2 of The Gage Brigade to find out!

22. Blood type: chances are Johnny's blood type is either A+ or AB+. These blood types are standard for Indian extraction and are dominant. Cherokee Nation is where you find the O blood-type. This is due to the fact that there was considerable breeding with Europeans.

23. There are very few homes in Los Angeles that have basements although they can be found. Most homes were built after the war and are either a raised foundation or the more recent (1960's on) slab on grade construction.

24. Hint: Earthquake faults are everywhere! Any rumblings are pretty much taken in stride by natives and with panic from non-natives. Natives like to guess the magnitude and are usually pretty accurate. The trick to judging is duration and the length of the "wave" -- the time between feeling the ground movement.

25. There has been more than a few housing tracks built on ancient landslides and they have caused all kinds of problems in the Los Angeles area.

26. In the 70's, there was a little "campaign" in California against all the influx of people. There were several different bumper stickers sported -- "Native Californian" and "Welcome to California. Now, go home."

27. Hint: There was a landslide onto a freeway in the Los Angeles area just prior to time of Emergency!

28. There was a freeway overpass collapse due to faulty construction in the Los Angeles area back in the '60's. Twice!

29. Contrary to popular belief, Station 51 has one shower stall ("The Game") and the toilet is behind the door next to the shower stall. That's one toilet only.

30. Exposure to smoke at a fire will give firefighters headaches. Can you say, Bayer?

31. There are indeed homes built on stilts in the Hollywood hills. Some of them were condemned but some of them still exist today!

32. Dixie drives a stationwagon ("I'll Fix It").

33. Universal Studios was referred to most often as Mammoth Studios with a World Picture Corporation, World Motion Picture Studios, Commercial Studios and Consolidated Studios thrown in.

34. In "On Camera," Roy shows off his pottery that he has thrown in his home workshop (he mentions a wheel and a kiln that he built). Chet collects barbed-wire. Marco does tin work just like his grandfather. Johnny takes great photographs.

35. R. Mantooth lost both his house and his Landrover in 1978 due to a large brushfire, everything burned to the ground.

36. Chet drives a VW van ("Inventions").

37. Joanne, Roy's wife, is the greatest pennypincher of all time, save now, save later (according to Roy in "To Buy Or Not To Buy.").

38. In case you missed this.... Chet's full name is Chester B. Kelly ("The Promotion"). Johnny's is John Roderick Gage ("The Lighter Than Air Man").

39. Johnny gets seasick ("Publicity Mad" and "Most Deadly Passage."), however, he doesn't get airsick.... And, he wants to buy a sailboat ("Inheritance Tax")! Go figure!

40. Johnny had his spleen removed ("The Nuisance"). This causes an increase in illness -- ya get more then your fair share of colds and flu's! You can even end up in the hospital with pneumonia a couple of times a year!

41. Johnny gives as good as he gets when it comes to practical jokes ("The Inspection"). Even Roy and Johnny perpetrated a gag on another firehouse with the aide of Chet's sister ("The Old Engine Cram").

42. R. Mantooth had his own emergency back sometime in the late 70's or early 80's.... Seems he had a little carbon mono poisoning from his heater.

43. Apparently, Chet's fried chicken is skinny and tough ("Heavyweight"). The proper military comment here is (since Chet was in the Army), "Whenever they serve us fried chicken we always count the crows out by the trash bins."

44. Squad 51's license plate numbers are E 979001 and E999007 ("Fuzz Lady" and "Frequency"). There were three different squads, so there may be another license number. The refurbished Squad 51's license plate is the E999007 one.

45. As of "Dealer's Wild," Roy had twenty-hours flying time.

46. The apron in "Dealer's Wild" says "Genius at Work" on it.

47. Roy has said that he has played all possible types of poker (the unofficial game of the military) in "Dealer's Wild."

48. Joanne, Roy's wife, was born on a farm ("That Time Of Year").

49. Johnny had the 1972 playmate of the year up in his locker in "Dealer's Wild."

50. Johnny's pin-up girl from the back of his locker shows up at the station ("The Screenwriter").

51. Roy takes his son to Indian Guides on Friday nights ("Nurse's Wild").

52. Chet says he ran a crane in the Army ("Fuzz Lady").

53. We saw Johnny drive a Jeep truck into the parking lot at the stationhouse in "That Time Of Year."

54. Johnny wrote a poem ("On Camera").

55. Johnny's birthday is August 28th ("The Exam").

56. Roy's birthday is November 7th ("The Exam").

57. Chet says that his birthday is near Roy's (which is November 7th). It is a guess that he is not the same "sign" as Roy ("The Exam").

58. Johnny's contact phone numbers are 321-1321 and a partial 749-1 ("Foreign Trade"). Area code was 213 back then. Now, you get lost in the area codes for L.A.!

59. Roy's home number is 784-1354, also from "Foreign Trade" and same area code.

60. Stanley's wife drives an Edsel ("Foreign Trade").

61. Johnny's an expert in calf-roping. He was raised on a ranch and must have roped a thousand calves ("Saddled").

62. Mike Stoker is married ("Brushfire"). "Know him well. He's quite a good man... I don't care, eh, eh, what his wife thinks," said Conway. (Gee, just what does his wife think? Or did! Mike Stoker, the "actor" was married at the beginning of the series.)

63. John Conway sings "Wabash Cannonball" ("Brushfire").

64. A few of Marco's relatives were mentioned in "Firehouse Four" -- Lolita, Pepita, Rosita and... Juan! And, of course, his mother (also mentioned in "The Great Crash Diet")! Marco also has a sister ("Simple Adjustment"), an uncle (How Green is my Thumb")and a grandfather are all mentioned ("On Camera").

65. According to Roy, Johnny's lucky number is 51 ("Loose Ends").

66. Valley College mentioned in "The Floor Brigade" really does exist and they are actually shooting at it in that episode.

67. Roy can take it or leave it when it comes to bubblegum. Chet will take it, given the choice! ("Kidding.")

68. Some of Chet's injuries are: cut hand ("Brushfire"), splinter in thumb ("Computer Error"), bruises and abrasions ("Family Ties") and broken shoulder ("Syndrome").

69. Johnny can't seem to keep his helmet on when it comes to heights (pick an episode and you'll probably be right!).

70. Johnny had been in the fire service for four years in "Brushfire." (If you take the airdate as the timeline, that would be February 19, 1972.)

71. In "Peace Pipe," you can clearly see the brand of cigarettes that Randy Mantooth smokes -- Lucky Strikes.

72. Johnny sometimes wears socks to bed ("Problem").

73. At one time it seems that Johnny lived in station 51's service area ("Drivers").

74. Los Angeles (California in general) has a maze of roadways referred to as "freeways." Which, until just recently, were all free to travel on -- there were no "toll ways" in Southern California during the time of Emergency. 2 or 3 roadways in the state now have become tollways but 99.9 percent are still free.

75. There is a Mount Wilson that overlooks the L.A. valleys and has transmission towers for radio and television stations and for other services which you can clearly see. There is also a Mt. Wilson observatory at the same location.

76. A little known Californian phenomenon.... You can find snowmen on the beach! Since the mountains and the beaches are only an hour a part drive time wise, people load up snow in the beds of their pickups and drive down to the beach and build snowmen!

77. Stanley loves to waterski and so does his wife, that is until he got married and his wife suddenly hated waterskiing ("The Boat")!

78. Best kept secret in California: there are tornados and water spouts here! The majority are F1's but there will be one or two F2's in a year. They only last anywhere from thrity seconds to one minute on average and very rarely cause "significant" damage. It was only in the last two years that the National Weather Service actually issued a tornado warning in California. Prior to that, the warning would only be a high wind warning!

One such incident occurred in downtown L.A. a few years ago and unfortunately there was a helicopter crash partially caused by it. A police helicopter was landed at the incident site and when it took off (at night) some downed powerlines where not seen by the pilot or observer and it got hung-up in them and fell like a rock back to the roadway. This was probably on national television because there was a camera crew filming the take-off and the entire crash was captured on tape.

It was just reported that since 1898-1998 California averages 14 tornados state wide!

79. At some time in Johnny's past, he broke his nose. (Look in any episode and you can see it isn't straight!)

80. Deduction: Johnny knows how to scuba dive. He knows the proper way to handle a facemask ("Seance") and he knew exactly what to do in a decompression chamber ("Pressure 165").

81. As of the episode, "Isolation," Johnny still hadn't purchased a house. One wonders if he did let Roy take that house over from him in the episode, "To Buy Or Not To Buy." We kinda think so. ;)

82. There is a significant cattle and horse ranching industry in So. Cal. Even more so back in the 70's.

83. The San Fernando Valley (referred to as "The Valley") has a flood plain called the Sepulveda Dam which is a recreational park. When it rains, it is closed down and floods out. Not too long ago, they weren't as diligent as they should have been and several cars and a transit bus were trapped in rising waters. Several people had to be evac'ed via helicopter.

84. Another So. Cal. phenomenon -- teens bodysurfing in the streets! Yup, you can find after a hard rain, kids bodysurfing in the runoff on residential streets.

85. Joanne, Roy's wife, has a sister ("Inferno") by the name of Eileen ("Family Ties").

86. Joanne's best friend is Susan, wife of Deke who is on Squad 44 A Shift ("Inferno").

87. You can get a good character description of all our gallant 51 crew at Wojos Place.

88. Roy sometimes wears socks to bed ("The Mouse").

89. Mike Stoker has an uncle who manufactures fertilizer ("How Green is My Thumb?").

90. Johnny was editor of his high school paper ("All Night Long"). Do not know what year though. Typically, a senior is editor and only after having been working on the paper at least since being a junior, but who knows?

91. Two mountain resorts that are favored by locals in Los Angeles -- Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead. Both have mountain lakes and Lake Arrowhead is prime real estate, perfect for a weekend getaway for a doctor! Big Bear has cabins for rent, also. Usually sleeps 6 to 12 people.

92. Johnny sometimes sleeps in his longjohns ("Mascot").

93. Two of Chet's favorite movies are "The Thing That Ate The World" (The Screenwriter") and "Terror In The Library" (Insomnia).

94. Two places Angelenos like to go to "get out of town" for the weekend are San Diego and Santa Barbara. Both are a mere 90 minutes to two hour drive time.

95. Yosemite National Park is only 6 - 8 hours away from L.A. (depending on how fast you drive!). There is some great fishing to be had in the area.

96. Chet goes fishing with Roy and Johnny a lot ("Snakebite") but he does pass on occasion ("Welcome To Santa Rosa").

97. In "Survival on Charter 220" many things come to light! Joanne, Roy's wife, drives a station wagon. Johnny has acquired a dog and has need of a lawnmower.

98. Vince Howard has children ("Camera Bug").

99. Johnny's Land Rover has 80,000 miles on it at the time of "Foreign Trade."

100. Charlie Wilson works the C shift at Station 51. He is such a good cook that all of C shift is ten pounds overweight ("Cook's Tour).

101. A favorite late night hangout in L.A. is at the cross streets of La Brea and Santa Monica, just north of Santa Monica on La Brea. It's a rather unassuming hotdog stand by the name of Pink's. The inside of the place is plastered with celebrity photos and it's not unusual to be there at 2am and see a limo out front with a celebrity in it getting two chilidogs to go. They make the best chili dogs and chiliburgers in L.A. (Unless you're a Cupid's Dogs fan that is located in the Valley!). The place has been there forever and is open 24 hours.

102. Marco named the mouse Herbert who briefly inhabited the station house ("The Mouse").

103. Rampart's "Status Board" with the heading "Paramedic Rescue Squads." The squads listed are 51, 45, 24, 14 and 99. There are two more listings but they are not squad numbers -- RA3 and RA9.

104. In case you haven't noticed, Johnny is a whistler.

105. Tip: So.Cal. has high winds, occasionally, that are called "The Santa Ana Winds." This is generally a hot and dry gusting wind that flows over the entire lower half of the state. It can gust up to 80 mph (or more) but averages 30 mph. There is always a warning put out for high profile vehicles -- campers, RVs and tractor/trailers. Sometimes, the freeways are littered with overturned vehicles because of this wind. At their least, the winds cause a lot of problems with allergy sufferers. At their worst, they whip up some terrible brushfires that will burn thousands of acres.

106. Assume the position! Engine 51; Stoker, driver; Captain Stanley, shotgun; Marco Lopez, driver passenger; Chet Kelly, shotgun passenger.

107. In "Paperwork," Marco inventories the refrigerator, not in English but East LAing it in slang Spanish: bread, butter, mayonnaise and onions.

108. Johnny and Chet have double-dated at least once ("Crash"). It also seems that Johnny was still in his immature years at that time -- he turned a full water glass over on the table (probably with a penny in it) with a napkin to hold the water in.

109. You can use Station 60. This is the stationhouse on the Universal Studios lot. Chet overtimed there and the rest of Station 51 was eager to hear the tale (and, what a tale!). So, there must not be a lot of absences at 60's ("Loose Ends"). However, Universal's name was still not mentioned.... Suggest the use of Mammoth Studios as a name where 60 is located but not until after the year 1976.

110. Marco has a great recipe for chili and spaghetti ("Above & Beyond").

111. Johnny and Roy became Captain's in 1978. This is according to Hannah L. Shearer, one of the producers for Emergency!

112. It is indeed true that if you suffer from internal bleeding you will get an intense pain just above the left collarbone. Sometimes, the pain is so intense that you are unable to move your left arm.

113. Hochrader is the captain of C-shift at FS51 ("Captain Hook").

114. Johnny (Randy) likes to slide around in the apparatus bay especially while going around the squad quickly. He likes to grab the handrail and swing around the corner -- sometimes going airborn ("Zero") (In "Computer Error," Johnny actually goes airborn and swings up onto the bumper, walking across it to Chet.)

115. Johnny prefers jelly filled donuts ("Rules Of Order").

116. Burton and Lincoln are another paramedic team but are not identified as to which station they work ("Rules of Order").

Dwyer was teamed up with Fitzpatrick but it is unknown if he is Dwyer's regular partner ("The Parade").

117. Even though continuity on just who the most used C-Shift paramedic was had a lot to be desired, he was most often referred to as Charlie Dwyer. Even in "Rules of Order" he was called Charlie even though the credits read "Bert."

118. Johnny and Roy bought a 1932 Dennis for $80 ("The Old Engine").

119. This quote says it all: "I must be getting old. I don't like pop art, rock music. I don't smoke pot. Keep my hair cut too short. Take a shower every day...." -- Roy DeSoto.

120. Chet's mother is sensitive ("Alley Cat").

121. Roy's son is named Chris ("Hang Up"). His daughter's name is never mentioned but fan writers have been calling her Jennifer in honor of Kevin's daughter.

122. Johnny went to high school with a fellow paramedic, Gil Robinson. Gil was the state champion pole vaulter (Transition). Editor's Note: The actor played John Gage's partner in the pilot.

123. Mike Stoker had a dune buggy in "Dilemma."

124. Johnny says don't go on a blind date with Chet ("Transition").

125. The beginnings of a short list of FCC call signs on Emergency!:

  • Station 51 is KMG 365 (The Pilot, etc.).
  • Station 59 is KME 456 ("Frequency").
  • Station 8 is KMG 356 ("Equipment").
  • Station 36 is KME 461 ("Frequency").
  • LA Dispatch -- take your pick; KME 896 ("Kids") or KMG 491("Dealer's Wild") and 419(This is driving E!U to drink! Time to play the E!U drinking game!)
Tip: There were three frequencies/dispatch centers for LACFD during the time of Emergency! -- Valley, Antelope and L.A. Valley was Freq. 2, Antelope Freq. 3 and L.A. Freq. 1. A station or FD unit always stayed on the same frequency -- unless a company in Valley's jurisdiction was dispatched on its own (2) freq and responded to a fire in LA's jurisdiction. Only then would they "switch to Frequency 1." Units on Freqs 1 & 2 used Freq 3 as a non-emergency car-to-car or car-to-dispatcher because radio waves didn't reach over the mountains into the Lancaster/Palmdale part of the county.

126. The communication link that the squad carries is called a "biophone."

127. Deduction: Given the responses that Roy gives to Johnny escapades, it is evident that Roy lives vicariously the single's life through Johnny.

128. Roy's other car is a Chevy truck ("The Parade").

129. If you want to look up the hazards of certain chemicals go to Sigma-Aldrich's site, register then log-in and look up the MSDS.

130. Roy has a large beltbuckle with a Native American design ("The Parade") on it very similar to the belt that Johnny ("Frequency") has. Deduction: Johnny gave the buckle to Roy.

131. Chet says that his mother was a mother-in-law. That would mean that either his sister or brother is divorced ("Family Ties").

132. Despite the efforts of the legal department at Universal to make certain that the rescue calls went to fake locations, here is a short list of cross-streets that actually exist:

  • Lincoln & Georgina is in Santa Monica ("Limelight").
  • Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) & Beach is in Huntington Beach ("Transition").
  • Wilshire & Westwood is in Westwood.
  • Wilmington & Carson is in Carson about three quarters of a mile from Station 51(127)("Hypochondri-Cap").
  • 3rd & Flower is in Santa Ana, Orange County (The Pilot).
  • Kenmore & 6th is in LA (Koreatown) (The Pilot).
  • Overland between Northgate & Kelmore is in Culver City ("Publicity Mad").
  • RT 27 & Summit Fire Road is in Calabasas ("Problem").
  • Not a cross-street -- Bellona Creek really exists in Marina Del Rey and that is the location where they filmed the plane rescue ("The Professor").
  • Pacific Ave. does end in Bellona Creek at the channel and that's exactly where they shot that scene with the submerged volkswagen("Seance").
  • Rowland & Citris is in Covina ("Promise").

133. A partial list of squad numbers:
  • 51
  • 24
  • 16
  • 44
  • 36
  • 14
  • 94
  • 59
  • 110
  • 99
  • 39
  • 10
  • 128
  • 6
  • 209
  • 3
  • 31
  • 45
  • 103

134. Brice, who was partnered with Belliveau and Bellingham, is on A-shift Squad 16. 16 is not based out of Rampart.

135. Lee Martinez is a firefighter who work's out at 8's ("Onward & Upward").

136. Johnny can speak pretty good Spanish by the time of "All Night Long."

137. LACoFD has their own large wall maps but they use the THOMAS GUIDE for the handbooks which you see Johnny using from time-to-time.

138. Deduction: Roy didn't do any parachute training in the Army. Roy was totally unfamiliar with a parachute rig in "Weird Wednesday."

139. Johnny knows how to hotwire a vehicle (kinda makes you wonder where he learned that, eh?)("Weird Wednesday").

140. Cardboard splints are kept bungycorded onto the compartment doors on the passenger side of the squad -- large on the left door and smaller on the right door.

141. Trivia: Dick Friend is the one responsible for the various company assignments that joined Station 51 being from companies no where near 127's. He did it as an inside joke for his fellow firefighters.

142. Roy is neither a Catholic or very religious ("Peace Pipe").

143. When Johnny was out sick for a shift, Roy was partnered with Chuck ("The Professor"). This could have been Charlie Dwyer.

144. Apparently, there is no doubt that Chet can talk your ear off. He kept a jumper occupied for two hours at the Highland Towers ("The Professor").

145. Roy's comment of, "If we can break it, we can chew it," is a very typical phrase from someone who's been in the military (The Promotion").

146. Chet sometimes gets a poker game together with the guys (Communication's Gaffe).

147. List of Chet's relatives: has brother ("On Camera") who he goes deep sea fishing with, a sister with a sexy voice ("The Old Engine Cram"), an uncle named Des which is probably short for Desmond ("Insanity Epidemic"), a grandfather who was a New York subway operator and two aunts ("Family Ties"). Of course, his mom is mentioned! Also, his mom Used to be an in-law.... So, that would mean that either Chet or his siblings were married and is now divorced.

148. Some of Marco's injuries: really bad shock ("Insanity Epidemic"), possible wrenched shoulder ("Pressure 165") and an undetermined one that required hospital stay. However, he did have a bandage on his right forehead just below the hairline and one on his neck, rightside ("The Nuisance").

149. The familiar yellow paramedic patches didn't appear until season four.

150. You know what I in Code I is.... Injury. You know what the F in Code F is.... Fatality. But, did you know there was a Code A? That stands for a request for arson investigation.

151. Roy takes sugar in his coffee sometimes. Johnny drinks his black.

152. Dr. Morton (Ron Pinkard) sports a tattoo on his right forearm... the Navy's anchor.

153. Johnny Gage was a test subject of about 20 anthropoligists every summer on the REZ when he was a kid ("Peace Pipe").

154. Some of Captain Stanley's injuries: slightly banged up knee ("The Stewardess") and electrocution ("The Great Crash Diet").

155. Something apparently no one is aware of.... There are no mines or mineshafts in the LA basin. There are indeed mines in the upper desert and elsewhere. There is, however, an extensive underground sewer/run-off system which we got a glimpse of in a couple of E! episodes. A movie that really gave you a good look at this system was the science fiction drama, "Them."

156. Dialog that speaks for itself.... "We have so much in common, it's almost frightening. It's incredible. Like for instance, she has an uncle that works in the department in San Mateo. The last four books I read she read. We have almost the same albums.... She boowwls." Johnny Gage talking with Roy DeSoto in "The Stewardess."

157. Johnny Gage feels strongly about keeping promises ("Promise") and doing the honorable thing ("Details").

158. Arson is the number one cause of fire in the world. It is a clandestine activity and only 20% are ever solved with the arsonist found. Those that set fires for the thrill often progress to larger and larger events. Often thrill seeking juveniles will set fires. They are fascinated by the flames.... If juveniles aren't stopped in this activity by their early teens, then they become arsonists.

159. A burning tire is equivalent to one gallon of gasoline. It can take days to put out a tire-pile blaze.

160. As of the episode, "Details," Captain Hank Stanley had been in the fire service for 13 years.

161. Dr. Early probably knows German. As part of being a doctor, you have to learn a second language.... Medical degrees for some reason pick German to learn. (This Tip brought to you by Lana!)

162. Roy does not get along with his mother-in-law. He was even considering growing a mustache like Clark Gable because she liked the actor ("Family Ties").

163. Roy isn't above playing a practical joke on his partner.... He dumped a bowl of cold water over the shower stall door onto Johnny! ("The Game")

164. Alarm Assignments! Now you can find out just how many apparatus and personnel are sent out on First, Second and Third Alarm Assignment! Go to this link!
