STORIES PAGE:

Enjoy the great work by the Keepers of the E! flame.

Webmaster note: For those of you who print out these stories to read, etc. You might want to just read it then print it out in a week or two. You know when you read a story and there are errors but no one goes back and makes corrections? We do! There are just some things that don't jump out at ya until later....

"She Comes In Colors"
    by NanM

Well, that's another fine mess you've gotten us into....

Feeling pain was a good thing. It meant he wasn't dead. Given that he was all alone, hearing Oliver Hardy's voice worried him a little, though. His head must have hit the window harder than he thought. Rewarded with an eye-opening smack of reality when he tried to sit up straight, Johnny gingerly rested back against the seat. Maybe pain wasn't such a good thing after all.

"Last Call"
    by Palaytia Dream

It couldn’t be. It coul...but the phone call from less than a minute ago, more like a lifetime, didn’t lie.

"New Kid In Town"
    by Sparky

Not your usual story. Not even. Definitely Not canon. But, how could I turn down this, oh so "guilty pleasure" when Sparky sent it to me! I guarantee you're gonna love this one!

"Shut up," Johnny snapped, barely controlling his anger. His hand was poised over the handle of his pistol, fingers twitching, when he felt the barrel of a gun press into his back, and heard the cock of the hammer.

"The Golden Hour"
    by Leanne

I'd like everyone to welcome a new writer to E!U. She's new to writing so you better email her or I'll sic Nurse Diesel on you! LOL

Awareness brought the realization that he was laying on a hard surface. Where he couldn’t remember. Why eluded him, too. He searched in his fuzzy mind for the missing pieces. Not receiving any answers, he focused on the sounds around him. At first it was quiet. Then, he noticed the creaking of boards, like a house settling around him.

"Beam Me Up, Johnny?"

    by NanM

Now for something completely different. Oh, wait, wrong show.... Or is it? If you think about who said those memorable words, "He's dead, Cap...." No, it's not who you think it is.... Is this a crossover? Is it a spoof? Why not all three?

“All right,” Roy answered, and turned to go. From the moment they’d arrived on the scene, he’d had a funny feeling that something wasn’t right, but there wasn’t time to worry about it now. “Be careful, Johnny,” he added under his breath.

"Rainy Days & Mondays"

    Johnny & Shannon #5
    by NanM

Rainy days.... Not something that happens too often in LA but I'm reminded of a slightly misquoted line from Men In Black II, "Maybe it rains because you're sad." We revisit the Johnny & Shannon series with the "missing" scene/story. This is your official "hanky" alert.

Faint thunder rumbled. The rain fell harder. Johnny raised his face to the darkened sky, wishing the water could somehow wash away the emptiness he felt, while wondering for the hundredth time if he would ever be able to put the memory of that day from his mind.

It was a day that had begun like any other....

"Not a Good Day To Die"
    by Sparky

Finally, a new home (like you thought it was going anywhere else?) for this story. This is the prequel to the sequel of "A Good Day In LA." It has been tweaked with a bit so it's worth a "second" read.

You know, John, Cheryl’s gonna be real pissed at both of us if you don’t show up next Friday. She’s gonna think you did this just to get out of meeting her cousin. I don’t care if she’s pissed at you, but man, I really dig this chick. Don’t screw it up for me with her. Cough, damn it. Do somethin’. You miss that date, and I’ll never speak to you again.

"A Gift of Hope"
    by NanM

I'm dreaming of a white christmas.... Oh, yeah, like that's going to happen here in Los Angeles.... Oh, wait, they had two feet of hail in Compton! That counts doesn't it?

“Great. I watch the whole movie just to hear Bing Crosby sing that song, and I miss it because Gage is in a lousy mood,” Chet said irritably. “You know, Roy, the rest of us aren’t any happier about having to work on Christmas day than that partner of yours, but does he have to be such a Grinch? It’s not like we haven’t known about it all year long. What is his problem?”

"Revisitation"
    by Caressa

Dreading his impending reception, Johnny walked stiffly towards the ER entrance. Just leave me alone and let me sleep, he thought, dragging his suddenly heavy body across the bay. Johnny paused, squaring his shoulders as if preparing himself for the stir he instinctively knew his arrival would cause.

"Lose Some, Win Some"
    by NanM

“Oh, sure. Make fun. You know, Roy, sometimes you really annoy me. I mean, you’re never willing to look at the bright side. You’re always thinking about all the things that can go wrong, instead of all the things that can go right. Just once, why can’t you be more like me and… and see the possibilities?"

"You want me to be more like... you?" Roy was in awe of the frightening possibilities that brought to mind.

"Knockin' On Heaven's Door"
    by Sparky

This is a knock out sequel to "Premonitions."

Joanne rolled over, startled awake by the sound. "Roy? What's wrong?" In the dark, she couldn't see his face. She didn't need to. A firefighter's wife was no stranger to her husband's nightmares.

"Point of No Return"
    by Sparky & NanM

“You know, at… at first, I… couldn’t believe they’d even suggest such a thing. I couldn’t believe he wanted you to do it. Milt… he practically begged you to take it off. If I had been in his spot, I don’t know what I would’ve wanted. But, you know Roy, it would have been his decision, not yours. His life was more important than his leg. You heard him. Of course, thanks to you, he’s got both.”

"Premonitions"
    by Sparky

His feet failed to oblige his impulse. Assuming his inability to move was related to the impression his boots were somehow suddenly encased in concrete, Roy warily regarded the vacant-eyed stare of the young girl sitting motionless in front of them. A hushed, husky whisper managed to claw its way free from the confines of his throat. It was the best he could do.

"Johnny. Be careful."

"Trading Places"
    by NanM

“...look, Dix. This is Roy we’re talkin’ about. Besides, I owe him. I mean, he’s always helped me when I’ve come home from the hospital. This is the least I can do for him. It’s only four days, and then Joanne and the kids will be home, and she can take over. It’s no big deal.”

"A Good Day In LA"
    by Sparky

I know it’s late. I won’t stay long. Just thought I’d come by and see how you’re doin’. You know, the... the rain’s finally stopped. They say it’s gonna be a good day in LA tomorrow. Lots of sunshine, clear skies. A good day. That’s... what we’re hopin’ for, anyway.

"One More Minute"
    by Sparky

“You know, I’d kinda like to… to have this day back. I’m not feelin’ so good. Tired. I just wanna close my eyes. But, this voice keeps sayin’ I have to hang on one more minute. I don’t know if I can. If I… if I didn’t know better, I’d say my time is… almost up.”

"Snapshots"
    by NanM

Like most families these days, time and distance, and the other things that influence our lives, have separated us. Sadly, we don’t all keep in touch like we might have expected. John calls every now and then, just to talk. Not surprisingly, he and Roy have remained close over the years. Those two shared a unique bond that went above and beyond the job. The rest of us admired, and sometimes privately envied, that kind of friendship.”

"Off The Record"
    Johnny & Shannon #3
    by NanM

“To tell you the truth, Cap, my parents really weren’t so different from most. I always figured I didn’t have any brothers or sisters because they had their hands full with me. You could say I was a little... uh... a little headstrong.”

“Really? I wouldn’t have guessed.”

"A Job To Die For"
    Johnny & Shannon #4
    by NanM

Is any job worth dying for?

Roy checked his watch, then looked at the door. It was almost seven-thirty. Generally Johnny was one of the first to get to the station, but he hadn’t shown up yet. Roy had meant to call him at least once during the last four days, but things around the house had gotten hectic, and he’d never picked up the phone. Reminding himself he wasn’t Johnny’s keeper, he nonetheless couldn’t help worrying a little about that cough.

"MŌLLI"
    by Lila

This is a very unique, AU version of a missing scene from "Virus." You'll find it as compelling as I did.

I stare at my hands and remember supporting Johnny's head, as he lay on the roof deck shaking and sweating in the throes of Kokie fever. Even as he weakly struggled, I had been glad of my gloves, a thick leather barrier separating me from his damp and virulent skin. After we loaded Johnny into the Stokes and the attendants carried him off, I watched the truckies from 210's back away from us, leaving Chet, Mike, and I to breakdown and stow the gear ourselves. Roy's stricken expression told them -- and us -- all we needed to know.

"Bad Moon Rising"
    by NanM & Sparky

Well, it was bound to happen some time.... NanM and Sparky collaborating. Be afraid. Be Very afraid!

“No, Roy, I’m not all right. I’m not fine. I’m not okay. My hand hurts, my head hurts, my shoulder hurts, my eyes hurt, my....” Johnny paused just long enough to make sure Roy wasn’t enjoying this. “Don’t even ask where else I hurt. Yes, I’m in a bad mood, and, no, I didn’t sleep well last night, or the night before. I came this close to buyin’ it a little while ago, and I’ve just about had it with… with… crazy people, and I’m tired of hearing about… about full moons and what they make people do. There. Now you know. Did… did I forget anything? Is there anything else you wanna know? If there is, just ask it now, and get it over with.”

“Yeah." Roy smiled, "There is one thing.”

"Yeah?" Johnny frowned. “What’s that?”

“You hungry?”

"The Argument"
    by NanM

As Roy continued to scour the area around him, his eye caught a familiar object lying in a patch of mud, under some brush about 20 yards ahead of him. A chill ran down his spine. He walked over and picked up the HT. His concern now gave way to fear.

It was as though Johnny had just dropped off the face of the earth.

"Dark Side of the Moon"
    by Sparky

"Cap, Roy. I saw John's Rover in the parking lot...." He was breathless, like he'd just run a mile. "Is he here?" Kelly's voice had a distinctly nervous edge to it.

"No, he's not," Roy replied, swallowing hard. That feeling in his stomach was twisting into a huge knot. "Cap here said he saw a sheriff's car follow Johnny into the parking lot, and then they left right away. What do you know about it, Chet?"

Kelly's eyes did a little dance around the room, trying to avoid looking straight at either of the men in front of him.

"Do You Believe In Magic?"
    by NanM

Johnny remained standing, unsure of what he wanted to do. Though bone-tired, he was restless and not ready to sit down and join the group. He felt kind of… alone.

Funny how you can feel that way, even in a crowd.

"Anytime, Johnny"
    by Allison

A response to Challenge 14. Boy, I love that challenge! This one is great!

The fire was burning all around Johnny; there was no way out. His air tank was long empty. The heat and smoke entered him with each breath, burning him from inside his body. He wasn’t going to last much longer. He could no longer see through the thick smoke. He tried to remember how he had gotten here, or whom he was last with… but he drew a blank. All he knew was that he was alone now, and the fire was too strong for anyone to get to him. John was forced to the ground as something fell on top of him. Searing pain coursed throughout his body. He coughed and spluttered. Blood trickled out of his nose and mouth. There was a loud crash, followed by a shuddering crack beneath him… and then he was falling as the floor gave way....

REVISED:

Just another day at Station 51...?

The rain came down a little harder.

Sighing heavily at the thought that he’d slept through two rain-free days, Johnny zipped his jacket up more and turned his attention back to the drug box, quickly finishing the inventory. “Looks like we could use a few things. Maybe we should get over to Rampart now… something tells me we’re gonna be busy again today.” He rubbed his forehead, hoping it wasn’t another headache coming on.

"UkE!lelE! Blues"
    by Palaytia Dream

Okay, picture this if you can....

Marco frowned as he turned, the strumming of a ukelele catching his attention from behind him. He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at the site of Chet and Johnny, side by side, each in a grass skirt, coconut shell bikini tops over their button up work shirts as they swayed to the rhythm Chet provided for them.

"Turkey On Ice"
    by Stella

What's the worse that can happen when you pull some overtime on a holiday?

As soon as the player left the ice, the line judges converged on the spot and scraped the bloody ice toward the boards with their blades. The referee blew his whistle, and play resumed as if nothing out of the ordinary occurred. There was one difference; the Mariners penalty box held a lone occupant, and the Sharks had a one-man advantage.

"Reason To Live"
    Johnny & Shannon #7
    by NanM

What can you do when happily ever after seems to be lost forever?

*Dixie thought if it was possible to watch a heart literally break in two, she was just witness to it. She was thankful the room was darkened, certain there were tears in his eyes that he'd be embarrassed for her to see.

Mending broken hearts isn't something they teach in nursing school.

The final chapter for Johnny and Shannon.

"The Choice"
    by Sparky

Just another standard day in the life of FF/PM Roy DeSoto.... Or, is it? Just remember, JoAnne loves Roy.

"Will To Survive"
    Johnny & Shannon #1
    by Nan M.

How best to describe this story? I'll let Dixie.

“...don’t you ever wonder how it affects them, personally?” she asked. No amount of training can possibly prepare you for witnessing the tragic death of a child. “Sure, we always see their professional side, but there must be times....”

"Some Day Is Today"

This is a great answer to Challenge Eight.

What would happen if Johnny's dire predictions in "Drivers" came to pass?
